Dennis Legere, of Mason, NH, was arrested and charged after he allegedly fled a traffic stop and crashed into a Townsend home just before 5 a.m. on Saturday, April 22, Townsend Police Chief James Sartell reports.
The crash came after an officer tried pulling over a gray 2021 Buick Encore, driven by Legere, that was speeding near the Lunenburg line. Police learned that the car had crashed into a home at 14 Elm Street shortly after the traffic stop.
No one inside the home was hurt, but the house sustained some damage and will be evaluated to determine its structural integrity, Shartell said.
Further investigation revealed that Legere, who was taken to the hospital for treatment, was driving under the influence of alcohol. It was also discovered that Legere was wanted by Leominster Police on separate charges.
Legere was later placed into custody and placed on a $5,000 bail by Townsend Police on the following charges:
- Speeding
- Failure to Stop for Police
- OUI Liquor (Second Offense)
- Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Operating to Endanger
- Marked Lanes Violation
Legere will be transferred to the custody of Leominster Police but is due in Ayer District Court on the Townsend charges at a later date, according to Shartell.
